Fourth FAIR February Meetup: Ten years of FAIR principles – Let’s discuss FAIR Digital Editions

The Task Area Editions of the NFDI consortium Text+ brings together the expertise of digital and interdisciplinary researchers with the aim of improving the research data infrastructure for digital editions. In the FAIR February event series, established in 2023, we focus annually on the FAIR principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability and their significance for digital edition projects.

Since their publication in the Scientific Data Journal in 2016, the FAIR principles have established themselves as guiding principles within the digital humanities. In 2026, they will celebrate their 10th anniversary, which is an opportunity for us to engage in a discussion: How has the landscape of digital editions changed over the last ten years? Is data being reused more often? Are resources better linked with each other? What challenges will the editions community face in the coming years and how can the FAIR principles support them? We want to start a conversation about this and invite you to two focus panels.

FAIR-Taking and FAIR-Giving – panel discussion on the reuse of research data in the context of digital editions

5.2.2026, 10:00–11:30

When talking about the reuse of research data, there are always two movements involved: Existing data is both taken and integrated into new projects – but to enable this, it first has to be shared. Each side has its own challenges and needs. In the form of a ‘speed talk’ – 6 questions in 60 minutes – we want to discuss with four experts what constitutes good reuse, how it can be achieved, and where there are still obstacles. We also want to address how new developments, such as the use of LLMs/AI, are changing requirements and working methods.

The discussion will be held in English.

The panelists:

  • Sven Jaros (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg)
  • Caroline Odebrecht (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin)
  • Elena Spadini(Universität Bern)
  • Peer Trilcke (Universität Potsdam)
